A new year is a unique time to improve yourself in many ways. One thing that people tend to strive for in the new year is losing weight & becoming more health conscious. One of the most important things we can do to change our bodies is eating better & smarter! A diet does not have to consist of just a salad for every meal of the day or starving yourself to lose some calories. Eating healthier doesn’t mean you will be living off of nuts & berries either! Use our cooking & dieting tips below to lush yourself in the right direction for the rest of 2018.
When some people think of healthy foods, they think of vegetables & all things green. However, this is not entirely true! Healthy foods come in all shapes & size it is up to you to do some research on what’s actually in the menus. In reality, any food that you enjoy will have a more healthy version of it that will either have fewer carbs, fats & transfat! Somethings to look out for in foods are:
- Low fat (make sure there is no transfat)
- Low sodium (1000 is a lot)
- High protein (make sure there is always more protein than fat)
Do your Macros
The absolute best way to get in shape & have a good diet is to start tracking your macros. Macronutrients are molecules that our bodies use to create energy. Online you can find a macronutrient calendar that will tell you how many calories, fats & carbs you should be trying to eat per day depending on what you want to do with your body. The beauty about doing your macros is that you can eat whatever you want as long as it falls inside the guidelines you have set for yourself. (Yes you can have those pancakes in the morning, but you may have to sacrifice something else later in your day.)
Use better cooking utensils
The way you cook is significant. If you are used yo frying all your foods or drowning them in oil, we have some bad news for you! You will not have to lighten up on the seasoning that you put in your food but instead the way your food is prepared. A good thing to invest in is a foreman grill! These grills drain out the fats in meats to almost nothing. It is also essential if you cook with oil to look at what type of oil you are using. Oils are mostly fat & salt, but there are oils out there that will have low fat!
